Short: HD Installer for SWOS (*all versions*) V1.0
Author: jffabre@club-internet.fr (Jean-François Fabre)
Uploader: jffabre@club-internet.fr (Jean-François Fabre)
Type: game/patch
Install-Script & HD-loader © 1998 Jean-François Fabre
Sensible World Of Soccer is Copyright © 1994-1997 Sensible Software.
This installer requires the SWOS original disks (there are 2).
This release has NOTHING TO DO with the world football championship :)
INSTALLATION:
Click on the Install_SWOS icon and follow the instructions.
FEATURES:
- Runs fully from HD/RAM
- Convenient installer script
- Versions supported: 1994, 1995-1996, 1996-1997
- Uses JOTDStartup (JST) not included. V0.8f at least needed.
- Load/save/delete on HD (in the 'saves' subdir)
- Accept savegames from other memory configs (there were a specific save protection)
- Runs on a standard A1200 or any system with at least 2MB of memory (LOWMEM/HDLOAD)
- Now can use fast memory without problems
- Protection removed
- Quit key at any time (F10)
- Change saves location using SAVEDIR tooltype (registered JST only)
- Nice MWB icon
The 'FORMAT' option has been disabled in HD saves mode. You'll understand why :-)
Even with SAVEDIR, you'll need to create a directory called 'saves'. E.g if you specify
SAVEDIR=RAM:, you HAVE to create a directory called 'saves' in RAM:
Successfully tested on A1200/020/NoFast and A1200/060/16MB/50MHz.
NOTES ON "SLOWMOTION"
I personnaly had no slow motion problems with my 68060, workbench, setpatch, etc...
On the 68020 I only tried without setpatch, but I know the old install by
Piotr/Sentinel was told to have slowmotion problems. Actually it was not the install
fault, but a setpatch problem on some amigas.
Here are the tests done by Jeroen Borgmeyer when I asked him to beta-test:
(Sorry, I don't know his config. Must be a 68030 or a 68040)
He tested the following startups:
Normal boot:
- SWOS in slowmo
Normal boot w/o wbstartup:
- SWOS in Slowmo
Boot w/o startup-seq:
- SWOS runs fine
Boot w/o startup-seq. but with Setpatch, either the latest or the original(typed in cli)
- SWOS in slowmo
Boot w/o startup-seq. without setpatch but with Loadwb:
- SWOS runs fine
Boot from original WB-Floppy(so with Setpatch)
- SWOS runs fine
Boot from floppy with script to start SWOSHD (+and I enabled Setpatch!!)
- SWOS runs fine(with Setpatch!!)
So you see there's a way to make it work at least !!!
ABOUT THE SAVES:
I removed a check for memory in savegames. I hope it will not cause trouble. If it does
just tell me. The loader will use 1MB of chipmem but there won't be problems anymore.
Of course you can use SWOSEd with the save files created by the loader.
Avoid lower cases for the names: it is not recognized I think.
Enjoy this great game from Sensible on your HD
Jeff
